Take them outside so they can finish going potty and then give them a treat for doing a “good” job.  They will remember the positive reinforcement for going outside and this is much more powerful that the alternative of negative punishment for going inside.  They may have already finished their business inside.  That’s ok. Don’t spank them for “not going.” Punishing your Golden Retriever pup will confuse them and it won’t do anything to help dissuade them from going potty inside.

Another common concern with Golden Retriever pups is getting them to stop shedding. Brushing your Golden Retriever puppy not only helps to catch that pesky fur before it ends up on your furniture, but it also helps train your puppy to accept, (and possibly even enjoy), grooming. Another great way to help stop dog shedding is to give your puppy a bath 2-3 times a month, (unless they are exceptionally dirty, then perhaps more often is called for). Using a tape roller or other device to remove pet hair from your furniture as soon as possible helps prevent it from getting stuck in the upholstery.
