Ringworm, Acne & Skin Care

Ringworms symptoms can most easily be explained by simply providing you with a little education about ringworm in general.

To start, ringworm is a fungal skin infection.  It doesn’t necesarily have any specific point of origin on the body because in fact, it can appear anywhere. Some of the more common hotspots of occurance include the hands, the feet, the groin area and the scalp.

Typically children experience a high occurance of ringworm but don’t be misled by this since ringworm can affect people in all phases of life.

Ringworm can best be described as a raised red and scaly patch.  As the ringworm progresses, it may blister and subsequently secrete fluid.  In turn, it can become itchy.

As the term suggests, ringworm appears on the skin as a bright red ring.  Ringworm that is active in the scalp has the propensity to create bald patches.  Ringworm when it affects the nails, can cause the infected nail to become thick, flaky and discolored.  As the infection progresses, the nail may simply disintegrate.

Ringworm is most active in areas that are damp and warm.  Therefore areas between the toes, the armpits, and the groin are a breeding ground for the infection.  Be aware that ringwomr is highly infectious and is transmitted quite easily by simple direct skin contact or by the sharing of objects such as combs, and clothing or may alternatively be contacted in areas such as public showers and pools.

Oddly enough, cats and dogs and other animals can concoct ringworm and as a result the infection may be transmitted to humans through normal contact with their pets.
