Everyone - men and women alike - start worrying early on about the appearance of that first wrinkle. For some, the fear of getting wrinkles can take over their lives. For others, they tend to do everything they can to prevent them from happening. Whatever the reason, it’s a fear that you don’t need. After all, even the fear of getting wrinkled skin could accelerate it’s appearance.

Prevention, of course, is indeed the key. It’s so much easier to take care of your skin before problems arise, whether you are talking about wrinkles or blemishes or sun spots. Some families, unfortunately, tend to get wrinkles at a young age and because it’s in their genes, there’s not much that can be done ahead of time, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up and accept your fate.

Wrinkles might be a product of old age, but if you’re troubled with wrinkles early on, it’s probably sun damage that should have been easy to prevent with the consistent use of sunscreen. Too many people that sunscreen is only needed in warm climates where the sun is hot all year long. Untrue! Even residents of Alaska and Denmark need a good sunscreen year round. It’s not the heat that causes a problem ‘ it’s the sun’s rays. You can experience sun damage even if you never experience a day over 30 degrees F.

Anyone who was ever taken to the beach on a regular basis as a child, without the benefit of sunscreen, runs the risk of experiencing serious skin problems later on in life. Wrinkles, cancer, warts, bumps, brown spots ‘ these are attributable to early sun damage that remains dormant for sometimes decades.

Smokers also run the risk of wrinkles because oxygen is being depleted at dangerous rates. It’s easy to spot a smoker ‘ their skin is dry, the wrinkles are deep and their lips are usually cracked. All the lotions and surgery in the world won’t help skin that has been damaged to this degree by nicotine.

If you smoke and sit in the sun, prepare yourself for some serious problems.
